The MiraWorx Therapeutic Plan

     "My alcoholism started after I had to quit work due to health problems.  I was diagnosed with a debilitating illness.  I've been told I was a workaholic long before I ever picked up a drink.  After I stopped working I became very depressed and between the constant pain and depression I began to have a couple of drinks at night so I could sleep better and to help with the pain.  I have a strong family history of alcoholism but I never dreamed it would happen to me.  As a matter of fact I looked down and was very judgemental of people who drank or used.  I thought they were just weak willed.  I was 27 when I first started drinking by my mid-30's, however, it was affecting every aspect of my life.  I started getting DUI's and wrecking cars.  My family started sending me to rehabs and psychiatrists to help me.  I've been to nine rehabs and numerous doctors to try and help me but as I look back I had already lost the defense against that first drink.  I always did well in rehab or so it appeared, but inside I knew that really nothing was changing and that I would drink again.  My health was also deteriorating quickly.  Over the last two years I've been given twelve pints of blood.  I've overdosed on alcohol five times and been taken to the emergency room not breathing.  By all rights I should be dead. . . . I was told at the hospital that if I drank again I would only live another year and to be honest my first thought was thank heavens it will be over soon!  One morning, however, I was in the back yard on a break [at a local rehab facility] and overheard the nurse talking about a new treatment for alcoholics and addicts.  When she explained it to me it made sense and I asked who I needed to talk to about having the treatment.  A week later I talked with Dr. Baggett.  He asked me what I would do if he had a bottle of vodka on the desk.  I said that in all honesty I would have to drink it.  I was accepted into the program the next week.  The treatment went well but until I was on a pass I really had no way to judge the results.  When my husband and son picked me up we went to eat, normally seeing all the liquor behind the bar would have set off the mental obsession and when we got to the hotel I would have made an excuse to be by myself.  Once I was alone I would have gone to the bar, slammed a few vodka doubles and gone back to the room. . . This, however, did not happen. . . The craving just wasn't a problem.  I also realized that my impluse control had been restored.  I now was able to play the tape all the way through and make the right choices. . . My family and I will be forever grateful to everyone who helped make this miracle happen not only in my life but in the lives of everyone around me."

     "When I first arrived here [at a local rehab facility] I was in pretty bad shape.  I had just been released from the hospital where they told me I had almost drank myself to death.  But I guess I have been doing that my whole life.  I've been drinking since I was 14 years old, about 33 years now. . . [I've been in] two car wrecks that almost killed me.  My left knee had to be reconstructed because of one of the wrecks.  All of this due to alcohol. . . I was in the hospital 14 days due to dehydration caused by alcohol.  I craved alcohol every minute of every day, even had dreams about it.  I've lost just about everything, my wife, houses, and very good jobs.  I lost jobs due to alcohol.  But, since the treatment I received here [MiraWorx] I have not had any cravings. . . Suboxone

     "Suboxone.....Miracle Medicine?  I think so!  I don't know how I got to where I was, but I was trapped.  Sure, I could quit but I never stopped thinking about where or when I could get another pain pill.  The depression and chaos I went through was too much to bear.  I started the suboxone treatment and have not longed for those drugs.  It seems too easy.  Yes, it's easy with suboxone.  Sure, life still happens.  You still have good days and bad days but, that's life.  I would strongly recommend this treatment for anyone [who has] an opioid addiction.  There is no need to suffer anymore."

Smoking Cessation

     "After 40 years I have finally quit smoking thanks to the smoking cessation program at MiraWorx.  I know of six serious attempts to quit smoking in my lifetime and the longest I have ever been able to quit has been five months.  Every attempt has been unbelievably stressful and uncomfortable to the point that I would return to smoking.  The MiraWorx program has been different for me because it combines the latest in medical treatment tailored to my individual needs and talk therapy support to develop strategies to quit.  I have tried going cold turkey in the past, nicotine gum, nicotine patches, non-tobacco cigarettes, and none of them offered enough craving reduction to keep me motivated to stay a non-smoker.  After a thorough assessment with the Physician, he recommended a prescription for Chantix, a new medication.  I was amazed that after 2 weeks of the medication I had very minor cravings and finally have the comfort and confidence that I have finally succeeded in quitting".
