Opiates/Painkillers
If you are beginning to realize you have a problem with prescription pain killers, it is important to know that you are not alone. At MiraWorx we are seeing an increasing number of residents throughout Oklahoma that are coming to see us for addiction treatment once they understand their need for help.
For middle to upper class Americans, prescription pain killers have become the main addiction problem today. The number of "hidden addicts" has more than doubled in the past 10 years. Much of this is due to the increased accessibility of potent and highly addicting opiates, such as hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, Lorcet) and oxycodone (Percodan, Percocet, Roxycodone, Oxycontin). Some doctors are still unaware of the potential for addiction in their patients even after a short course of pain medication. Patients are also rarely screened for previous dependence on alcohol or other drugs, or any previous issues regarding the patient's mental health. The internet is also playing a crucial role due to the fact that people are able to acquire these drugs without seeing a doctor and without a prescription.
Many people fail to recognize they have problem since they are getting their medication legally and it has been issued by a doctor, therefore their main problem, the addiction, can go unnoticed for extended periods of time. It can also be hard to see their dependence due to the fact that the withdrawal symptoms can take on similar characteristics to their original problem. Although many people once they have identified the dependence what very badly to stop and regain control of their life. The problem is they don't where to find someone who not only understands dependency, but can also provide them with the tools they need to begin a successful recovery.
