How Methamphetamines Cause Addiction

The use of methamphetamines has been a growing problem throughout America in recent years. The Midwest is experiencing this problem the most, there meth accounts for nearly 90% of all drug cases, it is most prevalent in Oklahoma, which ranks in the top five in almost every meth category. Recent statistical data shows that Oklahoma is one of the nation's leaders in Meth labs, arrests, addiction and cases. Unfortunately, methamphetamines are the most destructive drug of addiction. Family

Initially, users feel joyful and high on methamphetamine; however, it doesn't take long for the user simply to take meth just to get back to feeling normal. Without meth to stimulate the brain, the user suffers from fatigue, depression and body aches. After a little longer, their eating habits suffer and their teeth start rotting, causing what is known as "meth mouth". Still even with the side effects beginning to show themselves many will do anything to get their next hit and avoid the suffering withdrawal brings. Studies have shown that after enough time, the brain damage methamphetamines cause may be irreversible.

With recurring methamphetamine use, the brain physically changes. The normal things that used to make people happy and energized just don't make a difference anymore. When a meth user initially goes through recovery they endure a long period of exhaustion and require lots of sleep. After awhile they slowly start to improve, but the underlying depression, lack of energy and irritability persist. This has been known to last for months, years, and even severe cases, forever. Studies have shown the overall success rate for stopping methamphetamines is somewhere between 5-15%.

Treatment and Recovery from Meth Addiction

Treating methamphetamine addiction successfully requires a comprehensive recovery plan that deals with all aspects of this terrible addiction: the brain disease itself, the psychosocial aspects of addiction, and the nutritional issues that must be addressed to ensure a full recovery.

It is extremely important to realize that medication alone is not enough to ensure the greatest chance of success. A critical part of the MTP is the treatment of the underlying psychiatric problems. We also devise a nutritional program for each individual that boosts the effects of the other treatments. Used together, these treatments can help the patient bypass the months of fatigue and depression and give them the best possible chance at a successful recovery.

Since a life that has been destroyed by meth cannot be rebuilt overnight, we utilize our MTP which supports each patient for at least one year. It's a long term treatment plan comprised of therapy, nutritional guidance, and visits with your physician to ensure you have the support you need to gain control of your life back. Our plan gives you the tools you need to re-establish your life, drug-free.
